Kareus Therapeutics announces addition of senior management

Atlanta, GA (MMD Newswire) October 26, 2009 -- Kareus Therapeutics, LLC, an Atlanta based emerging drug discovery company today announced that Dr.Patrick Doyle has joined the company as President, Corporate and Business. Dr.Doyle comes to Kareus with deep experience in deal making, licensing and financial transactions at European and US pharma and biotech companies. He has also been a pioneer in advancing PPAR based anti-diabetic drugs and was instrumental in licensing of PPAR based compounds by Novo-Nordisk from Dr.Reddy's Laboratories in the early nineties and during his tenure at Metabolex, Inc.

Commenting on Dr.Doyle's recruitment, Dr.Uday Saxena, CEO, said" Patrick's joining will greatly strengthen our ability to do creative deals and enhance the value of our pipeline drug candidates. He comes to us with an outstanding track record in corporate and business deal making". Dr.Saxena was previously the Chief Scientific Officer of Dr.Reddy's Laboratories and has vast experience in drug discovery and development, including being associated with the team that discovered Lipitor during his tenure at Parke-Davis.

Dr. Doyle added "The combination of a world class team, an innovative platform with a clever business model means that we can progress our differentiated low risk molecules in an expedited way and have creative partnering discussions in parallel.

Kareus Therapeutics designs and develops novel differentiated therapeutics using a new proprietary chemistry platform. The KARLECT platform creates these novel chemical entities (NCE's) by uniquely combining existing drugs thereby reducing the risks normally associated with new compounds but yet conferring a novel patent position. Using its KARLECT platform, the company has designed a drug combination for treatment of Alzheimer's disease that has completed in vivo proof of concept and is now in preclinical development. In addition, application of the platform to cardiovascular disease has lead to a new combination useful for treatment of low levels of HDL (good cholesterol), a medical condition now recognized as a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Kareus is also applying KARLECT to diabetes and oncology.
