May 2008 -- Atlanta, GA -- KRAUSE GALLERY is pleased to present “NEW BLOOD,” important new works by contemporary, New York-based artist JORDAN EAGLES.
For nearly a decade JORDAN EAGLES has been using and preserving blood in his works as a method to explore themes of regeneration and metaphysical connections between body, spirit and nature. Eagles preserves the blood on slabs of Plexiglas within layers of resin, suspending the organic medium’s fluid forms under the resin’s glass-like surface. The luminous, multi-dimensional renderings often resemble explosive energy, the inner rings of trees, magnified cellular details, Rorschach inkblot test patterns, large-scale photographic images of planetary bodies, dark matter, galactic bullet clusters and prehistoric landscapes. . “NEW BLOOD” features a new technique—gradations of “aged blood” in various stages of decomposition that create deep, black fields in stunning contrast to the medium’s rich, fresh, translucent reds. The blood's lucent properties retain and vibrate light, illuminating pools of reds, blacks and sealed-in protein air-bubbles. In some instances Eagles infuses copper, a conductor of electricity, with the blood to create a fiery effect reminiscent of molten lava and galactic shrapnel. The results are remarkably luminous as the blood permanently maintains its natural colors and textures.
Eagles' NEW BLOOD series has been touring the country with most recent solo shows including: Real Art Ways in Hartford, CT, Mark Wolfe Contemporary in San Francisco, CA and Merge Gallery in New York City. Eagles’ work has been seen at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art and featured in numerous publications such as the New York Times, Village Voice, San Francisco Chronicle, SF Weekly, Philadelphia Weekly, Miami New Times, Baltimore City Paper, and Architectural Digest Italy.
