Redding, CA (MMD Newswire) August 14, 2012 -- Security Expert John M. White, CPP states that children under age 18 are the fastest rising group of victim's of identity theft?

In the last 10 years, identity theft crimes involving children have risen 200% according to the Federal Trade Commission. All it takes is a child's social security number getting into the wrong hands and the child's credit can be compromised for many years to come according to White. Identity theft issues do not become apparent for years, so when a child's identity is stolen it may take until they are an adult to surface. White says there are warning signs that a child's identify might be compromised, and they are;

- A child gets credit card applications in the mail.

- A child gets phone calls or letters from collection agencies.

If either of these things were to happen, there is a good chance that a child's identity is already compromised. According to White, "If someone is a victim of identity theft the repair process can normally take many years."

White has been a guest speaker at numerous civic groups and professional business seminars on the topic of Identity Theft, and the company offers Identity Theft avoidance and recovery advice.
