"I Wanna Dance" in Pre-Production

July 23, 2008 --- You Got Served producer Cassius Weathersby, whose credits include DC CAB; Pacific Inferno; and House Party IV, joins P. B. Floyd, the film’s producer/director, to bring the industry’s next hot dance movie sensation to the public. Weathersby says he is “excited to be involved with such a hot multi-cultural, dance movie.”

I Wanna Dance is about a teenager named Lei’lah, who lives and breathes hip-hop, and aspires to become a hip-hop dancer. Lei’lah, who portrays herself as an adolescent, and R&B vocalist/actress/dancer Sa’Gine (Burn Notice, Life and Times of Marcus Felony Brown), who plays the teen Lei’lah, are featured in the lead role.

IWD also features Fred Williamson (Hammer, Starsky & Hutch) as Marvin Williamson, Lei’lah’s disapproving father; James Avery (The Closer, The Division) as Big Money Mike; Reynaldo Rey (227, White Men Can’t Jump) as Mr. Booker; Trina McGee (Boy Meets World, So Little Time, Bird Cage) as Lei’lah’s best friend Tekla Ruchi; singer/actress Christina Vidal (a vocalist on Will Smith’s hit Nod Ya Head) as Claudina; and her sister, Lisa, as Salita.

Floyd, IMI World’s president; writer Dee Cuffe; and veteran book publisher/writer/editor Shange Amani wrote the screenplay. Amani also edited the junior novel. McGee is storyline consultant and associate producer. Mel Maron is the film’s producer’s rep and production executive. As President of Cinema Shares Theatrical from 1975 to 1980, Maron helped Cinema Shares become the second most-important independent distribution company in the United States, after New Line Cinema.  More recently, he was elected into the Executive Division of the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Science and named to the Advisory Board of South Florida Motion Picture & Television Film Society.

Chris Davis International is the film’s international distributor. Davis has been consulting filmmakers and producers for more than seven years and has been involved in the marketing and sales of more than 100 feature films. His work has benefited major players in international film distribution such as AVCO Embassy Pictures, Lorimar International, Trans World Entertainment, and Imperial Entertainment.

Pre-production begins July 15, 2008 and Production starts August 30, 2008

IWD’s soundtrack features the debut single Looking for You, performed by Sa’Gine and produced by Floyd and Steve O, the producer of Qwote (I Don’t Want to Fight, featuring Shaggy and Trina on Jive/Slip & Slide Records); a hip-hop remix of Looking for You by Grammy-nominated and Stellar Award-winner Kenny Smith; and a house mix of the single by Adam Mark Anthony and David Wachs.

I Wanna Dance expects to screen at the American Film Market (AFM) in Santa Monica, CA in 2008.
