ANNAPOLIS, Md. (July 2, 2008) – Food Link Inc., an Annapolis, Md.-based hunger-relief organization, wants to make the dream of homeownership a reality for one lucky family and fund its efforts to feed the hungry. A $100 ticket to “A Home Run for Hunger” provides a chance to win a home valued at more than one-half million dollars. Only 7,500 tickets will be offered and can be purchased at www.FoodLinkMaryland.org. by October 8, 2008. The two-story, four-bedroom home is located in Dunkirk, Md., 30 miles east of Washington, D.C., 25 miles south of Annapolis and just west of Chesapeake Bay. The 1.8-acre home site overlooks Lions Creek, and the home has two and one-half bathrooms, a formal living room, family rooms on two floors – one is equipped with a pool table that is included – and a large deck with gazebo, as well as cathedral ceilings, skylights and large windows overlooking the private back yard. The home has been appraised at $550,000.
“The housing industry is off, gas and food prices are soaring, and the work of not-for-profit organizations is more important than ever,” said Cathy Holstrom, Executive Director of Food Link Inc. “That’s why we’re so excited about “A Home Run for Hunger” and its potential not only to raise funds, but also to provide an amazing home for someone.
“Our 100 Food Link agencies saw the number of people needing emergency services double during 2007. More than 10,000 people in every sector of our population, from infants to senior citizens, are finding themselves in need of the essentials of day-to-day living. The money raised through “A Home Run for Hunger” will make an enormous difference in their lives and for our entire community,” said Holstrom.
The mission of Food Link, established in 1991, is to lead efforts in alleviating hunger in communities by linking vital resources to families and individuals in need. For more information, log onto www.FoodLinkMaryland.org. or contact Cathy Deighan at
