WHAT: Beginning this Friday, September 6, 2012, in Morris, IL, the American Truck Historical Society will sponsor its first Historic Highway Convoy. The convoy will follow Route 66, the famous "Mother Road," from Illinois to California. In conjunction with Travel Centers of America, celebrating its 40th Anniversary, daily truck shows take place from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at T/A or Petro truck stops at each of the nine stops along the route: Morris, IL; Troy, IL; Joplin, MO; Oklahoma City, OK; Amarillo, TX; Albuquerque, NM; Gallup, NM; Kingman, AZ; and Barstow, CA. Convoy vehicles will arrive around 4 p.m. to conclude with an expanded truck show. The convoy will make its final stop on September 15 in conjunction with the Route 66 Rendezvous, the annual automotive event held in San Bernardino, CA.
WHO: American Truck Historical Society (ATHS), publisher of Wheels of Time magazine and the largest antique truck club in the United States.
WHY: We invite you to stop at any of the locations on the days listed and enjoy the ATHS Historic Highway Convoy as we "Get our Kicks on Route 66." Trucks owned by local ATHS members, an ATHS booth display and booth displays by the Prime Movers and Heavy Hauler sponsors will be present at each location.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Truck enthusiasts willing to register and drive a historic truck along the entire route or a portion of the route, local truck owners who want to register and show their truck at one or more locations, and anyone wanting to view the antique trucks at any of the daily shows.
WHEN: September 6-15, 2012. Truck shows will begin at 11 a.m. and end at 7:30 p.m. at each of the nine stops on the convoy. Convoy vehicles will arrive each day around 4 p.m. to conclude with an expanded truck show.
