SUSAN ARNOLD, President, Global Business Units, will receive the 2007 Global Leadership Award on behalf of Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG)
New York, NY --- Ambassador William H. Luers, president of the United Nations Association of the United States of America and the Business Council for the United Nations (UNA-USA), has announced the 2007 Global Leadership Award Dinner honorees.
Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah will receive the Global Humanitarian Action Award in recognition of her many philanthropic efforts, including her distinguished role advocating for the rights, health and safety of children around the world as UNICEF’s first Eminent Advocate for Children. One of America’s most influential women in business, Susan Arnold, president of Procter & Gamble’s Global Business Units, will receive the United Nations Association of the USA’s 2007 Global Leadership Award on behalf of Procter & Gamble. These remarkable honorees will be recognized at UNA-USA’s annual dinner to be held in New York City Thursday, October 25, 2007 at Cipriani Wall Street. Reception 7pm; Dinner 8pm The evening's moderator will be Mr. Harry Smith of CBS The Early Show.
H.M. Queen Rania, at 37, has established herself internationally as an advocate of educational development; expanded health care worldwide, and programs for families and young people, which led her to become UNICEF’s first “Eminent Advocate” for children. She is active in more than 20 major organizations and institutions in Jordan and abroad.
Procter & Gamble is being recognized for its global philanthropic initiatives including providing clean water for millions around the world through its Children’s Safe Drinking Water program and Protecting Futures, a program by Tampax & Always, dedicated to helping young girls in southern Africa stay in school by providing health, and educational services, including sanitary protection, in partnership with UNA-USA’s HERO campaign.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon and UN Foundation Chairman Ted Turner will join the event as honored guests. Also, the Newman’s Own Foundation will announce a special gift to UNA-USA to establish the Leo Nevas Human Rights Program in honor of long-time UNA-USA Board Member Leo Nevas. A special tribute will be given to the late Arthur Ross, a steadfast Board member of UNA-USA and unwavering friend to the UN. The Dinner Chairs for UNA-USA include John C. Whitehead, William J. McDonough, Thomas R. Pickering, John and Francie Pepper, Lionel Pincus and Princess Firyal of Jordan. The Honorary Chairmen are President Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush.
