The US spends over 30% of Healthcare Costs on Preventable Illnesses
Plantation, FL - (Release Date: July 20, 2010) -According to the National Committee for Quality Assurance over 30% of all healthcare costs or $720 Billion per year is spent on preventable illnesses. In an economy where Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security are running out of money, when is the government going to take steps to eliminate these wasted healthcare dollars? Chronic illnesses such as Hypertension, Diabetes, Hyperlipidemia, Heart Disease, Asthma and Emphysema among others contribute to 70% of all healthcare costs. When these chronic illnesses are well controlled, the complications of such illnesses such as Heart Attacks, Strokes, Chronic Renal Failure resulting in dialysis, as well as many other expensive and life threatening complications can be prevented. This means a potential savings to the US economy of nearly $ 720 Billion per year. In order to detect uncontrolled chronic illnesses early, which are likely to end up in these expensive and deadly complications, a new healthcare technology, now available for 32 medical and surgical specialties, tracks patients' medical problems prior to the development of these medical complications. "Do No Harm: Saving our Health-Care System" recently published, details how establishing and implementing this knowledge base technology for Medicare and Medicaid patients alone can save tax payers more than $ 240 Billion per year. Angel M. Garcia, M.D., Chief Medical Officer of Global Medical Consultants, LLC researched medical records and developed the knowledge base for 32 specialties. This medical, knowledge-base technology facilitates tracking patients' complaints and exam findings thereby identifying patients at high risk of developing Heart Attacks, Strokes, Emphysema and other costly complications before they happen. Furthermore by implementing this new technology in a centralized database, insurability can easily be determined without violating HIPAA or the patient's private medical information. Additionally, reimbursement methods of physician fees by HMO's have caused skyrocketing healthcare costs as well as unnecessary specialists referrals and diagnostic procedures. Compounding the US healthcare crisis are health insurance companies' CEO's paying themselves over $ 20 Million a year on salary alone and malpractice litigation attorneys are keeping more than 70% of the monies awarded to patients for medical negligence. Finally, there are numerous over the counter medical treatments that are effective against common, every day medical problems without having to visit a doctor further reducing the cost of US healthcare.
