Hawaii Pacific Teleport to launch Satellite Communications Appreciation Courses in Paradise
April 03, 2008

Kapolei, Hawaii -- 3 April 2008. On a recent sunny morning a satellite news gathering truck pulled on to a beach a few miles west of Honolulu Airport followed by a film crew. The results of that gathering can be seen in a video promoting a new concept for training in satellite communications. The video can be viewed at www.hawaiisatellitecenter.com and can also be found on YouTube by entering the search phrase ‘satellite training’.

Hawaii Pacific Teleport (www.hawaiiteleport.com ), the largest independent teleport in Hawaii, is branching out into the training business.  Launched under the banner Hawaii Satellite Center (www.hawaiisatellitecenter.com ) the first course,  Satcom Essential, is a Satellite technology appreciation course. Unlike conventional training courses those offered at HSC are staged in satellite teleport where delegates attending the sessions are offered a novel way in which to participate. HSC provides two day weekend courses. Satcom Essential is a series of three sessions run simultaneously covering satellite theory and regulation, satellite services marketing and business opportunities and a hands on equipment course where attendee’s get to play with ‘boy’s toy’s including TV company flyaway satellite terminals and a satellite news gathering truck like the one featured in the video.

The host team of Bruce Elbert, Bill Allen, Virgil Labrador and Vince Waterson conducting the sessions are well known in the satellite industry and bring decades of expertise and practical experience in the field to these courses.  Each session is limited to about 20 attendee’s to preserve its ‘huddle around the water cooler’ ambiance and full use is made of the teleport facilities to make them interesting and informative but about as far removed as you can imagine from stereotyped monologues from tradeshow speakers who can oftern send an audience to sleep.

Each session of the course lasts about an hour and is repeated once over the weekend enabling attendee’s to pick and choose the order in which they attend sessions.  Intervals between sessions provide plenty opportunity for attendees to have one-on-one briefings with host team members. All attendee’s receive a course attendance certificate.

There are plenty of coffee breaks and catered lunches each day providing ample opportunity to network in what promises to be an elite international gathering in a seaside location like no other. On the first evening delegates are treated to a Luau, an Hawaiian feast, which is in included in the delegate fees. The courses are on Saturday and Sunday however for those who wish to add on a day of golf after the course HSC can make the necessary arrangements.

HSC can also provide custom sightseeing trips around the tropical island of Oahu for spouses attending the courses.

The Hawaii Satellite Center courses provide a unique opportunity for engineers, managers and entrepreneurs to get an appreciation of satellite technology on an island setting which many describe as a close to paradise as we are likely to get.
