Miami, Florida -- November 5, 2007 -- Habana Abierta has made a huge impact in today’s Cuban music. In the 1990’s a group of young artists, musicians, writers, painters, sculptors etc. disillusioned with their experiences as artists on the island started their own revolution through the arts. It was a prolific time in Havana. Habana Abierta’s music is an integral part of Cuba's 20th century heritage.
Habana Abierta's music is a special sound, a sound brought back from an island full of contradictions, swaying breezes and repression, sensual beats and economic hardships, warmth and kindness and artistic censorship. After trying to work and produce in Cuba these guys had had enough and took off to Spain. They have been living there and producing music for the last ten years. They have built a life in Madrid but Havana is never far away, neither the good nor the bad. Their latest album “Boomerang” produced by Nat Chediak has a nostalgic feel right along melodic grievances, the music and poetry of a generation wanting to breakthrough. On Saturday, November 17, Miami will have the opportunity to see Habana Abierta without the restrictions of an auditorium. Miami will be able to move and dance with them on a breezy night somewhat similar to how it would be in Havana ninety miles away but on that evening not quite that far.
