GiveUpOne helps needy this Christmas season
December 11, 2007

Carmel, IN -- 12/11/2007 -- What would this Christmas season look like if massive numbers of people gave up just ONE Christmas present and decided instead to give that gift to someone in need? This is the idea of GiveUpOne.com, a new web site created for the 2007 Christmas shopping season.

GiveUpOne.com is the creation of Carmel, Indiana entrepreneur Bill Wolfe. The GiveUpOne concept came from a sermon at Northview Christian Life in Carmel, IN. Wolfe explains that he was moved to create the web site after hearing the sermon. “Pastors Stan Killebrew and Dave Choutka delivered a great message about the consumerism and greed that surround the Christmas season,” Wolfe states.

The National Retail Federation is forecasting that Americans will spend approximately $474.5 billion at Christmas in 2007.

“Americans spend $18 billion on makeup, $15 billion on perfume, and $17 billion on pet food.” Wolfe reiterates. “It would cost $5 billion to eliminate illiteracy worldwide, $10 billion to solve the water crisis for everyone in the world, and $19 billion to eliminate hunger worldwide.”

The web site emphasizes ways for Americans to give to the needy. For instance, many Americans get money at Christmas as part of a gift. Instead of spending that money on their wants, the web site suggests finding ways to creatively give it away to help others. “When I look at my family, we don't need anything,” Wolfe explains. “We have a home and food and clothes. But what if we did without one gift and gave away the money from that gift to help others that need it more than we do? Pretty soon we could easily eliminate a whole lot of suffering.”

Those who take the challenge are urged to go to the web site, www.GiveUpOne.com to post a comment about how you are going to accept this challenge and who you’re going to help.
