FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Rediscovering the Power of Community: The Germantown Religious and Business Community Partners with Philadelphia School District to Rebuild the Germantown High School Library.
[Philadelphia, PA] --- On Tuesday, September 11, 2007, Germantown High School will unveil its new library at a ribbon cutting ceremony to begin at 10:00 a.m. What makes this celebration unique is that area churches and businesses collaborated with Philadelphia School District to rebuild the deteriorating library and to replace outdated books and computers.
This community initiative was brought together by the Germantown Clergy Initiative, led by Reverend LeRoi Simmons, and included churches like Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church and businesses like IBS Communications, Home Depot, Duron Paint & Wall Coverings, and McDonalds. The church and business community donated supplies, labor, and money to renovate the physical structure and to outfit the library with new books and computers. According to Enon’s Senior Pastor, Reverend Dr. Alyn E. Waller, “what emerged from this effort is a message of hope that comes from seeing what can be done when the community shares the burden of meeting the educational needs of our children. Because of this collaboration, hundreds of children will begin this school year with the resources necessary for a meaningful learning experience.”
