March 16, 2011 (MMD Newswire) -- Geoffrey Berg is initiating a radical reappraisal in the way people argue about God's existence or non-existence. In brief logical analyses published today (16 March 2011) both as a booklet, 'Fallacious Thinking About God' and on the internet on a free to access site www.godfallacies.com Geoffrey Berg exposes the logical flaws, including many new fallacies he has uncovered, in the main arguments for God's existence. He analyses logically both the modern and the traditional theristic arguments and also some of the common arguments for atheism.

This short work is particularly notable because it seems to be the first significant attempt by a leading atheist to comprehensively challenge the logic (or rather the illogic) of modernist theologians. Geoffrey Berg, the author of The Six Ways Of Atheism (published in 2009) - see www.thesixwaysofatheism.com - analyses in simple language the logical flaws inherent in modernist theological thinking.

For instance Geoffrey Berg exposes the logical fallacy (paradox) of many modernist theologians claiming to know that God exists while simultaneously asserting that God's existence is beyond (or outside) our Universe. Geoffrey Berg points out that 'beyond our Universe' must be beyond the knowledge of all humans, including theologians! He shows that this must mean those theologians cannot genuinely know that God exists because the sphere (if existent) they claim God exists in has many other possible alternative arrangements, e.g. computer like artificial intelligences, infinite chance, evolution etc as alternatives to God. People cannot know what arrangements may exist in any hypothetical sphere beyond our Universe. Therefore it is neither evidenced nor sensible to suppose that God exists there! Geoffrey Berg through such logical arguments demonstrates that modernist theological views are completely flawed as a basis for theistic belief.

In the past atheists have generally been deterred from challenging modern theology because of the seeming elusiveness of the new concepts of God. However, Geoffrey Berg now searches out, finds and exposes the logical flaws in the modernist as well as the traditional thinking about God in his pioneering work published today.

This short work, 'Fallacious Thinking About God' written in quite simple and understandable language should prove exceptionally useful both to amateurs and to generations of students of both philosophy and religion. In it Geoffrey Berg, a graduate of Cambridge University, England examines the following eleven common logical fallacies in both arguments for and against belief in God.

1. The World Needs God As Creator Fallacy
2. The Science Fallacy
3. The Human Psychology Fallacy
4. The Argument From Authority Fallacy
5. The Extraordinary Happenings Fallacy
6. The Humans Could Identify God Fallacy
7. The God Outside The Universe Fallacy
8. The Indescribable God Fallacy
9. The Defining God Into Existence Fallacy
10. The God Can Completely Escape Notice In This World Fallacy
11. The Fallacy Of Any Possible A Priori Proof Of God's Existence

Complimentary paper copies of this booklet are being sent to practically all university academics in the English speaking world who teach or specialise in the philosophy of religion in philosophy departments and to relevant philosophy journals as well as to leading atheist societies in the world.
