Valued at $5,000 USD, the 'What's the Point' ring was designed by Mr Douglas as part of the new Inspired Collection. The diamond - held in place by thin branches of gold on a sturdy (and lethal!) pointed silver ring - has the appearance of floating naturally. It may look slightly unwieldy but, as Carolyn Enting Fashion Editor for the Dominion Post reports: "I've personally tried on this ring, it's surprisingly comfortable and functional despite the point. Perry, of course, loved it."

The 'What's the Point' ring can be seen as a runway model for the ethos of The Inspired Collection. A cornerstone of the Inspired philosophy has been the goal of making all of the precious stones set in to their jewellery appear as if they are suspended in space showcasing the diamonds in their best light, from any angle. Jewellers from The Inspired Collection took first prize in the NZ National Jewellery Design Awards in 2009 and 2010 and claimed the prestigious GIA award for Men's Jewellery Design in 2010. Currently in negotiations with a number of high-end department stores and jewellery retailers, The Inspired Collection is always on the lookout for other retailers that share their philosophy.
Katy Perry was spotted wearing the Inspired ring on her flight out of New Zealand. "We're grateful Katy will leave NZ with a memento of Wellington and a sample of our creativity", says Douglas. Funky, outlandish and just a little over the top, 'What's the Point' is a perfect match for the eccentric Perry who is famous for her outrageous fashion sense. "It's not exactly discreet", says Douglas, "but then, what's the point of that?"
