Fitness veteran in Los Angeles pledges to ride an elliptical machine for 24-hours to raise money for ALS August 8, 2007 -- An elliptical marathon is how Los Angeles gym owner and peak performance coach Erik Flowers describes his live 24-hour exercise event to raise money for ALS research. During the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon, Flowers, who turns 48 the day of the Sept. 2-3 event, will ride an elliptical machine for “Augie’s Quest.”
Augie Nieto, founder of Life Fitness, now Chairman of Octane Fitness, created Augie’s Quest. Nieto developed ALS in 2005. Flowers’ gym members, who have pledged $200/hr. for the 24-hour never-before-attempted exercise event, are supporting his event “ElliptiSize with Octane for ALS”.
Flowers has been called “The Athlete Whisperer,” a personal trainer for 25+ years, and co-owner of Body Builders Gym, located in Silver Lake, east of Hollywood. Flowers lives in Orange County with his wife and daughter, as does Nieto and his family, though the two have never met.
Octane Fitness is providing the cross-trainer machine. Flowers has no other corporate sponsors, does not have a medical team, and will not use performance-enhancing supplements to compete the event.
