Fans of VERONICA MARS take to the skies, and hope for the best...
CW Network Announces Fall Schedule on Thursday, May 18, 2006

Fans of the TV show Veronica Mars want network executives and advertisers to see that they are committed to the show, not just as viewers, but as promoters. If the CW brings Veronica with them to Burbank, current fans will be following, and through their efforts, they plan to bring a new wave of watchers with them.

On TUESDAY, MAY 9, the day of the Veronica Mars season finale, fans hired a plane to fly between the UPN offices in Los Angeles and the future site of the CW headquarters in Burbank, pulling a banner with a simple message: "RENEW VERONICA MARS! CW 2006!"

     "Save our Show"

In addition to the publicity stunt, fans put their energy–and their cash–toward more lasting efforts.

A significant portion of the $5000+ collected by fans was used to purchase DVDs of the show's first season for libraries in major television markets across the country. As an alternative to monetary donations, the group also encouraged fans who wanted to contribute to purchase Veronica Mars DVDs for their hometown libraries. Thanks to the combined efforts of these two drives, over 135 sets of VM DVDs have been donated and accepted. Fans plan to continue the donation drive when the second season is released on DVD August 22, 2006.

As Veronica's many fans anxiously await official word on the show's fate, they hope those in the press who enjoy this show will continue to champion its renewal:

Matt Roush of TV Guide wrote, "A standing O all around to Kristen Bell as Veronica Mars. If I'd been in the gymnasium, I'd have stood and cheered when she graduated, too. She's a keeper. So's the show."

Amy Amatangelo of the Boston Herald and Zap2It.com: "'Veronica Mars' is the real thing. Let's hope the powers that be on the new CW network know that, too. Because the final moments of the finale will leave viewers anxiously anticipating a well-deserved third season."

Melanie McFarland of the Seattle Post Intelligencer predicts, "Even if 'Veronica' doesn't win a third go, Tuesday's finale cements its place in TV history as another brilliant, massively underappreciated series that people will 'discover' later on."

Jeff Jensen of Entertainment Weekly: "Next season—and I believe there will be a next season—we promise you more consistent and dependable ['Veronica Mars'] coverage. Here's hoping VM's new network can make the same promise, and deliver on it."

Maureen Ryan of the Chicago Tribune praises the second season: "Kristen Bell and Jason Dohring, as the star-crossed friends and sometime lovers at the heart of the show, are the two finest young actors working in television, or any other performing medium, for that matter. Let's hear it for another season of 'Veronica Mars,' with the same skilled crew in front of and behind the cameras."

Jerry McCormick of San Diego Union Tribune: "We close the episode (and hopefully not the show) with Veronica waiting for [her father] at the terminal with the "Now Boarding" sign flashing. Like Veronica, we're waiting to see if this show gets renewed. Let's pray that it does."
