The program, begun in the early 1950's, was an attempt by members of the American intelligence community to use hypnosis, hallucinogens, and telepathy for espionage. One offshoot of this project, known is some circles as 'The Valley', features prominently in Brian Blocker's novel Subliminal.
We asked Brian how he came to hear about this mysterious installation. "Since I was little I've been fascinated about secret government projects. It was called 'The Valley' because it was supposedly located in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. In SUBLIMINAL, Blocker places it in West Virginia's Canaan Valley.

I asked him if he believed the United States government used operatives that could read minds, and he responded, "Anything is possible. I don't think we have fully realized the potential of the human mind, and if breakthroughs have been made in this area, it will probably be a very long time before that information sees the light of day."
