CHICAGO, IL -- September 9, 2008 -- In June 2008 corporate managers received the largest number of pink slips since June 2003, and more and more of these downsized individuals are over age 50, a point in life when the chances of successfully regaining a comparable corporate position are greatly reduced. For many, starting their own business offers an attractive alternative to corporate employment.
Throughout September Bizstarters, a Chicago-based business start-up coaching company, will offer free entrepreneurial phone coaching sessions to downsized corporate managers and executives over age 50. Reservations can be made at www.bizstarters.com .
“Surveys show that the vast majority of individuals over 50 desire to continue working well into their sixties,” says Jeff Williams, chief coach for Bizstarters. “But due to a variety of circumstances, many desire an alternative to corporate work. Our free coaching sessions permit these people to assess which specific entrepreneurial opportunity is best for them.”
Williams and members of the Bizstarters’ Virtual Incubator coaching network have been providing business start-up training to downsized corporate managers since 1990. A certified training provider to the Illinois Workforce Development Network, the company has won state and national awards for the effectiveness of its business start-up programs among downsized managers from such companies as Motorola, Allstate, Pfizer and Sears to name a few.
“I was unexpectedly downsized myself at age 31, so I know how bewildering it can be to suddenly be told to leave your job,” notes Williams. “The difficulty of finding a suitable replacement job after age 50 is all the more discouraging. We are offering these coaching sessions to permit these vulnerable individuals to carefully consider how they may be able to replace their corporate income with the revenue of their own businesses.”
The no-cost 30-minute phone coaching sessions will be conducted via phone by members of the Virtual Incubator Coaching Network. Reservations can be made online at www.bizstarters.com .
