"Empty Nest Support Services" Offers Seven Tips for a Smooth Transition
 
July 26, 2007 -- Adult children are returning to their lives on campus, work, or other locations that leave you silently sitting in the empty nest, again. Transitioning isn’t easy.

1.    Let people help you
2.    Review your expectations and lower them in order to prevent disappointments
3.    Pick one thing each day that will enliven you and post it by your computer or bathroom mirror.  
4.    Give yourself some credit. If it weren’t for your loving them, they wouldn’t have developed the skills to leave and build an independent life.
5.    Go out and if you don’t like where you are come back home. You get to change your mind.
6.    Write on your computer or in a journal without stopping for fifteen minutes, so set a timer. “If someone would help me, I would love to……What people have said they love about me is …………What I admire about my friend is ……….. This is not homework and no one will read it but you.
7.    Hang out with people who make you feel good about yourself
