'Dukes of Hazzard' Star Takes On Hollywood To Wage War on Sex, Drugs On The Big Screen
John Schneider produces an adventure/comedy movie that's family friendly. He's taking it on the road 25 theaters at a time.
Los Angeles, Calif. / March 1, 2007 -- On the Dukes of Hazzard he played a good ol' boy who righted wrongs. Now in real-life John Schneider is fighting Hollywood to prove it's possible to create a family-friendly movie.
"I made this movie because of the Dukes of Hazzard movie in '05," says Schneider, who starred as Bo Duke on the adventure/comedy television show. "They totally missed the mark because of the cussing, sex and pot smoking."
That movie was rated PG-13 because of Sexual Content and Crude, Drug-Related Humor.
"I'm not a prude," says Schneider, "it's possible to keep the audience entertained without potty humor and hard-core violence. It's just harder to do and not as chic."
Schneider, a father of three, says he's always wanted to make a movie where families can sit together and laugh and not be embarrassed by why they're laughing. But the big movie studios kept telling him it would never do well.
"The big brass told me the family demographic was a waste of time," says Schneider, "I don't believe that. I think that the audience who watched Dukes of Hazzard are still there and they are starved for a good, clean adverture comedy that the whole family can watch."
So he made the movie himself and he's setting out to prove Hollywood wrong.
It's called Collier & Co. Hot Pursuit! It stars Schneider as J.R. Collier, a race car driver who has decided to quit racing and start his own used car sales company.

He gets the cars by racing other owners. The winner gets both pink slips. One race nearly costs him his family. And their lives.
"We're distributing this movie ourselves, we don't have a big budget like the big studios," says Schneider, "I think the audience that watched the Dukes of Hazzard is still there and they are starved for a good, clean adventure/comedy that the whole family can watch."
He says he has 25 copies of the movie that will be shown at 25 theaters every two weeks. He hopes to have it on 300 screens by September 22.
"I've got to get everyone to see it so we can change Hollywood for the better," says Schneider. "We're taking it across the country because everyone involved believes in it passionately. We want to make more movies like this and this is how we're going to get started."

Like Bo Duke would do, Schneider is promoting the film "by literally taking the movie theater-to-theater in the trunk of my orange '69 Dodge Charger."
