January 11, 2011 (MMD Newswire) -- Domain Names International (DNI), one of the world's leading Internet Domain Registrars, is proud to announce the hiring of a new President, Mr. Wayne B. Norris of Santa Barbara, California. Mr. Norris started with the company in December as a part of the company's long-term expansion plans. To better describe the company's increasing role in delivering maximum value to its customers, DNI will be offering services under the name Domain Match Makers.
"We're getting the gang back together," announced company CEO and co-founder Kennen "Kenn" Palm in a message to employees upon Mr. Norris's hiring. Mr. Norris and Mr. Palm have worked together in multiple ventures around the world since 1994, and work well collaboratively, each supplementing the other.
DNI's current business model consists of brokering high value Internet domain names to firms, individuals, and organizations in unique positions to realize significant value from them. However, the firm's registration status with ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers - the world's Internet governing body - allows DNI to act as a full-service Internet domain registrar, akin to the role filled by giants like GoDaddy. Mr. Norris and Mr. Palm, along with co-founder Denis Markov, are currently planning the firm's expansion strategies.
Internet domain names are akin to physical addresses, in that they materially assist the companies and organizations who own them in the pursuit of their businesses. Just as the famous Beverly Hills, California ZIP code of 90210 adds to a company's presence when compared with a relatively unknown ZIP code, so does the ability to use a recognizable or prestigious domain name. Although most domain names sell for dozens or hundreds of dollars, names like BUSINESS.COM, which sold for $7.5 million, prove that premium domain names can have significant value.
DNI and its subsidiaries spend significant resources searching for and purchasing the most valuable Internet domain names that become available each day, using complex algorithms and processes the company created specifically for that purpose. Then the company identifies the firms and organizations who can make the best use of its valuable domain names, and it offers its valuable domain names to those entities for fair prices.
Recognizing that the purchase of a domain name by a customer is merely a first step in an ever-increasing value chain for that customer, DNI intends to offer additional services to assist its purchasers to allow them to monetize their web presence. The company's near-term growth strategy will be built around offering those additional services, along with organically growing its core domain business.
"This is quite exciting," observed Mr. Norris. "I've known Kenn for a long time, really enjoy working with him, and can hardly wait to take this company to even greater heights."
Mr. Norris is a technology businessman with a long career in innovative projects. A former member of the Rockwell International team who put a man on the moon with the Apollo Project and analyzed the moon rocks afterward, he wrote his first software as a child in 1959, and wrote software professionally for more than 20 years. He has written numerous books and articles and was the host of a radio show, Business and Technology, on Santa Barbara's KZSB AM-1290 radio station. A nuclear physicist by training and experience, he has spent the last 5 years as the chief scientist of a defense firm engaged in force protection and counterterrorism, holds a US patent in neutron physics, and has appeared on Anderson Cooper 360.
