TORONTO -- June 2, 2008 -- Uncle Vern (www.unclevern.com ) is a new online directory for permanently, or temporarily, child-free adults who want a kid-free experience at restaurants, hotels, resorts, coffee shops and theatres. Uncle Vern also offers a personals section specifically for people who seek a child free love connection. The site also offers lots of fun through Discussion boards, Uncle Vern's current thoughts, and a "Dear Vern" advice service.

The concept of the directory was prompted by Uncle Vern’s personal experience in Peru. He was relaxing in a hot tub after hiking Machu Picchu – cigar in one hand, drink in the other – when a kid came screaming across the pool area. The sound pierced his ears. A splash doused his cigar. And across the pool, a couple, apparently on a second honeymoon, made a quick exit.. This was not his first such experience, but the one that prompted Uncle Vern  to decide, then and there, to create his website for adults who enjoy life without kids.

To make it in Uncle Vern’s directory, a service must either have a kid-free policy, or be an establishment not usually frequented by families with young children. The policy may be either universal or apply to certain aspects or hours of service. Once inspected by Uncle Vern or an authorised niece or nephew, a listing will get a kid-free approval rating. And if a an Uncle Vern aficionado sees a violation of the directory’s principles, they can file a “Kid Sighting” Infraction Report.
