Swedish company Dirac Research brings car audio technology into American homes - debut at 2008 CEDIA
August 27, 2008

Uppsala, Sweden and Torrance, CA -- August 27, 2008 -- With the 2008 CEDIA EXPO introduction of the RC8.90, Dirac Research announces its cooperation with California based InterSource OEM, Inc. RC8.90 is an 8 channel 90W RMS per channel custom install power amplifier integrating InterSource’s CLARIDY Amps™ class-D amplification with Dirac Live® digital room correction.

Dirac Live® is a digital signal processing technology initially developed for sound system calibration in the European luxury and premium car segments. The calibration recovers the intended stereo image and the natural timbre of music from the damage caused by in-car acoustics. The increasing number of car model releases featuring Dirac Live®, such as the all new 2009 BMW 7 Series, reflects the increasing interest in advanced sound processing technologies.

With the introduction of the RC8.90, the Dirac Live® signal processing algorithms are brought to the domestic custom hifi installation market. Equipped with a measurement microphone and the calibration software, professional installers can optimize a sound system and make an A/B demonstration within minutes. A demonstration substantiates the effect of digital room correction on the detrimental influences of room acoustics and constrained placements of loudspeakers. Unlike other digital room correction systems available today, Dirac Live® produces a spatially robust mixed-phase calibration of both time and frequency properties.

The RC8.90 marks the starting point of cooperation between Dirac Research AB and InterSource OEM, Inc. The cooperation is aimed at developing, marketing, and manufacturing high-end hifi amplifiers (full range and subwoofer) with digital room correction for the consumer, professional, and custom install markets, primarily in the USA. The amplifiers are customized and sold to manufacturers of high-end hifi equipment, thereby making the proprietary technologies available under their own brands.

CLARIDY Amps™ class-D amplifiers have also been developed to meet automotive electronics specifications. This means low weight and small size in combination with high power efficiency, tight EMC tolerances, and large operating temperature ranges. As a consequence, the amplifiers are easy to integrate with other electronics.

“It rarely happens that technologies are carried over from cars to homes; the opposite is the norm”, says InterSource President and CEO Robert Wills. “With 17 years of experience with audio electronics and speaker design supplied to both markets, we identified a unique opportunity: As of the introduction of the BMW Individual car sound systems with Dirac Live®, home hifi was clearly lagging behind”.

“Our automotive customers are looking forward to applying Dirac Live® to their home hifi systems”, says Dirac CEO Nilo Casimiro Ericsson. “InterSource also shares our ambition to revolutionize the hifi marketplace. It’s a perfect match and a great opportunity for both companies.”

CR8.90 will be presented at the 2008 CEDIA EXPO in Denver, CO, on September 4-7, with demonstrations given in booth 157 InterSource OEM, Inc. / CLARIDY Amps.

About InterSource OEM, Inc.:
InterSource OEM, Inc. provides OEM and ODM turnkey audio products to audio industry manufacturers from home and professional audio to car and marine audio. We have highly experienced electrical and mechanical engineers, a lab for electronics, amplifier and driver development, and a home theater for real life development in a home environment. The CLARIDY Amps side is new and based on high efficiency class-D switching and amplification with results of, low heat dissipation, low distortion, high safety, excellent reliability, superior sound quality in its class,   along with affordability for OEM’s. Our 2 x 90W full range can be used in active speakers or as our customers see fit. For RC8.90 proto there are 4 of these modules inside a 2U 19” rack chassis with room for 4 more to total 16 channel capability in a small package. First out for subwoofer platforms 200W / 300W and 1000W all will be available with Dirac Room Correction or conventional analog controls. All our amplifiers will meet CEC Compliance and Energy Star Requirements. We will register each model with Energy Star as it readies for production so our customers will be able to reach compliance sooner than required.

CEDIA 2008 RC8.90 Demonstration: We invite everyone to stop by and listen to the results of this new relationship and cooperation between Dirac Research AB and InterSource OEM, Inc. Let your ears decide on who will lead the future in Digital Room Correction Technology.
