Art of the Matter, Deborah Slater Dance Theater and Studio 210 present the 4th annual gala Dance ‘Til You Drop 06 featuring the best and brightest of the Bay Area’s performing arts and wines.  This annual fundraising event is a local arts tradition honoring the highly talented and diverse dance community of the Bay Area. This year’s gala celebrates the 26th anniversary of Studio 210, Art of The Matter’s rehearsal and performance facility located in the Mission District and serving hundreds of the Bay Area’s artists and performing arts groups. “The annual gala not only provides the much needed funds necessary for the two groups to continue exploring and presenting new trends in contemporary dance, but also it is an event that everyone, from wine connoisseurs to dance lovers can enjoy” stated Deborah Salter, founder and director of DSDT.

The evening offers Deborah Slater Dance Theatre, known for the dexterous mixing of words and movement and taking acrobatic movement into the deepest unconscious. The Bay Guardian said of her work, “director-choreographer Slater’s impressive dancers manipulate everything from aluminum chairs to a slanted table, a sofa, and an inflatable mattress, turning them into weightless ideas of themselves in ongoing negotiation with their troubled, ecstatic, melancholic human counterparts. …every beat an unexpected, revelatory pleasure.” (Avila)  DSDT is joined by Susan Voyticky, whose aerial style is a distinctive combination of grace, technical prowess, fluidity, theatrical and vocal expression.  Also showcased will be Brittany Brown Ceres, whose " Recollection suggested we were in the presence of genuine craft and individual sensibility" –Voice Of Dance, July ’03, and Paco Gomes who has studied folkloric and religious dances since his childhood in Bahia, Brazil and holds a degree in dance and a Masters in education from the Federal University in Bahia. In addition, he has been a guest faculty member at Stanford University.  Fat Chance Belly Dance features Tribal Style belly dance, “The women are stunning - heavily tattoed and wearing colorful long skirts and cholis (short tops),  their jewelry jingling as they dance..” Dance Magazine.  Last but not least, Cat Ljunggren is a founding member of The Rhythm Hotshots, a dance and performance company from Stockholm, Sweden.  They performed all over Europe, and in the USA, Canada, Singapore and Australia.  DSDT board member, Michael Berger stated: “Bringing a diverse and extremely talented group of professional dance companies once a year and under one roof is extremely rewarding. It creates new audiences for the performers and introduces new forms to people who haven’t seen them.”

In addition to live dance performances, guests enjoy free food and wine as well as free swing lessons with Cat Ljunggren, founding member of Sweden’s the Rhythm Hotshots. Having performed across Europe, the US, Canada, Singapore and Australia, the Rhythm Hotshots Company has also participated in Lindy Hop World Championships and European Rock 'n Roll Championships. Alisa Clancy, DJ and host of KCSM – Jazz 9’a Morning Cup of Jazz, orchestrates musical pieces, while Silver Oak Cellars winemaker, Dan Baron is Master of Ceremonies.  All this for the price of one ticket!  Separately, it would be twice the price.

Needless to say, the prize performance of the evening is a silent auction which this year will include premium boutique wines by Dominus Estate, Grace Family Vineyards, Silver Oak Cellars, Domaine Chandon, Dalla Valle Vineyards, Judd Wines, and Navarro Vineyard among many others.

“Each year, our goal is to live up to our mission to promote contemporary dance theatre to diverse audiences in the Bay Area, while at the same time, giving us a chance to reward supporters with the opportunity to go home with some of the finest and hard to find wines of the region.” Dan Baron of Silver Oak Cellars stated.
