Custom Curling is Excited to Announce the Release of the Fifth Addition of the Exclusive Chateau Laguiole Versailles Collection

Hartford, CT-- November 9, 2006 -- Custom Curling is excited to announce the release of the fifth addition of the exceptional Versailles Collection. The Chateau Laguiole Oak handle is handcrafted with wood coming from Marie Antoinette’s Oak. The collection of Chateau Laguiole corkscrews is considered by many to be the finest handmade wine openers in the world. Every wine enthusiast will appreciate the feel and weight of this truly magnificent French cutlery made by Master Sommelier and Cutler, Guy Vialis.

The oak tree used to create this incredible collector’s item was planted by André Le Nôtre during the 17th Century in the gardens of Versailles. An accurate and certified count of the tree’s rings places 1679 as the exact date. Not only was this 324 years old specimen Versailles’ oldest, it was also notorious for being “Marie Antoinette’s Oak”, as it was her favorite place to rest during hot summer days. The bottom section of the tree is on display at Versailles and a sapling of the same species, Quercus robur, was planted in its original location. The remaining portion of the tree was purchased in its entirety by Mr. Vialis, creator of Chateau Laguiole, to make a variety of collector knives and this wine opener.

In honor of its historic significance, the Chateau Laguiole Versailles Collection has been given a royal seal. The symbol on the bolster of the Versailles Oak models is an exact replica of the original private seal of Marie Antoinette, the interlocked M and A. All her properties located in Versailles’ “Le petit Trianon Palace” were given her private seal. “Le petit Trianon Palace” was a private retreat for Marie Antoinette at Versailles. There, she could escape from the formality of court life and the burdens of being Queen of France.

Due to its historic attributes, high demand and the limited availability of this incredible piece, Custom Curling has limited the purchase amount to a maximum of 1 piece per customer.
