Cult artist Lello Esposito in New York.

Italian artist Lello Esposito will open an exhibit on October 10 at Viromare Gallery, 547 West 27 Street.

New York, NY -- October 4, 2006 -- Both sculptor and painter, Lello has worked for the last thirty years on his city, Naples, and its symbols – Pulcinella, masks, horn-shaped amulets, the egg, skulls, volcanoes and Saint Gennaro –  all in their various transformations.  

He is engaged in long-term research which, over the years, has enabled him to experiment with sculpture and painting to create an evolution of meanings, dimensions and artistic techniques. For his sculptures and installations, he uses various types of materials – such as bronze and aluminum – and paints large canvases using paint and a mixture of techniques.

Lello Esposito defines himself as “a cult artist”, due to his investigation of archetypes, the symbols of the city of Naples, and the collective cultural imagination, which rise to the surface from the depths and are restored, to take on new forms, making a valuable contribution to the new interpretations of tradition; such re-interpretation is essential element to any form of contemporary artistic and cultural experimentation.

Esposito has combined his all-embracing passion for art and for Naples to become, without question, one of the city’s most representative and clearly recognizable artists.
