Creating Sustainability Now

At Kite For Sail opportunities are flying!

June 28, 2007 -- In Hawaii, consistent trade winds offer a tangible alternative to our beleaguered dependence on fossil fuels. The world is in dire need of solutions to escalating fuel costs, increasing scarcity and the threats of global warming. An organization has born on the island of Maui with the intent of developing all types of alternative energy.

Kite For Sail LLC, specializes in advanced wind propulsion technology. For centuries kites have been used to augment conventional sail-power on ships. Our kite-sail technology harness higher atmospheric winds than afforded to conventional sail, offering possibilities to fishing vessels, emergency power in times of crisis, as well as energy augmentation to freighters traveling on all normal sailing courses. The potentials for land-based energy production are also being explored.

Kite For Sail has brought together an experience crew or energy, technology and oceanic enthusiasts. It’s founder Dan Tracy, an avid sailor and fisherman from Mount Desert Island, Maine, founded the organization after early land based research and development. An 18 foot Hobie Catamaran was modified and used as the first test boat, followed by dozens of prototypes designed, built, tested and refined between 2004 to 2006. Development began in July 2006 on an F24 Corsair trimaran.

Chris Tracy, Dan’s twin brother, is a NASA mechanical engineer brought in as a consultant on the latest state-of-the-art materials, construction and design possibilities.

Ian Fisher is an accomplished Maui waterman who knows local Hawaiian wind patterns, coastlines and currents.

The unusual and ambitious project has not only turned heads in the Aloha state, but worldwide, with numerous individuals and businesses offering support both financial, materials as well as in expertise. Over the next 5 years the team is planning  kite-sail voyaging throughout the Hawaiian island chain to the mainland USA and around the world.
