Coop Atlantic and Natural Organic Food Group Partner to Offer a Complete Line of Fresh Omega 3 Pork Throughout the Maritimes

Charlottetown, PE (October 29, 2007) - As the demand for healthy products containing functional food attributes that are health-promoting and disease-preventing make headlines throughout the world, Co-op Atlantic is one of the first Canadian retailers to come to market with an Omega 3 meat offering.  Co-op Atlantic has partnered with Natural Organic Food Group, Inc. (NOFG) to proudly offer their customers a full line of fresh PEI PORK ™ Omega 3 products. These products include all of the major fresh pork cuts, together with an Omega 3 fresh sausage program.

Co-op Atlantic is the only grocer in Atlantic Canada that partners with local farmers and producers to help grow some of the Atlantic Canadian products sold in their Co-op and Valufoods stores.

“Atlantic Canada’s Co-op stores are proud to take the lead in offering Omega 3 Pork to our members and customers,” said Robert Lemoine, vice-president, Food, for Co-op Atlantic. “Providing nutritious, healthy and great tasting food in our stores is a priority for us. Omega 3 Pork will provide an exciting new choice for Atlantic consumers. And because it encourages consumers to choose Atlantic first, it will help strengthen our region’s food producers and keep economic resources here at home.”

“We are pleased to work locally with Co-op Atlantic in providing their consumers with our PEI PORK ™ brand of Omega 3 pork products. Our pork products are unique in that they contain health-promoting levels of Omega 3 fatty acids, enough to supply the recommended daily allowance for a  North American adult.  Our animals are raised by local PEI farmers to strict standards and are fed a wholesome diet of primarily roasted soybeans and flaxseed which provide a flavorful culinary experience,” stated Mario Maillet, President and Founder, NOFG. “Our pork provides a natural and organic alternative to the usual sources of Omega 3—fish or manufactured supplements.”

The Omega 3 market segment is expected to reach $7 billion by 2011.  Consumers today are well aware of Omega 3’s health benefits according to surveys conducted by Nutrition Business Journal.  An estimated 60% of the North American population is aware of Omega 3’s and 80% are currently consuming or are interested in consuming functional food products for their healthful benefits.

Founded in 2004, Natural Organic Food Group, Inc. (NOFG) is the leader in providing healthy meat and poultry in the marketplace.  Being the first to create a full line of healthful meat and poultry products to enter into the wellness food category, NOFG has a full array of meat and poultry products to fit the healthy lifestyle of today’s consumers.

NOFG believes in implementing small fundamental changes in everyday food purchasing habits.  When consumers choose to purchase organic meat and poultry products they choose to buy a system that protects the planet.  NOFG works with small family farms in Canada and the United States that follow NOFG’s strict husbandry protocols for producing and providing the safest, tastiest meat and poultry available within the marketplace.
