Virtual Marine Life Gets Real in Second Life

April 20, 2007 – Round Hill, VA. – Something Fishy, a virtual marine life retailer, announces the launch of Nature’s Smart FishTM, the most realistic animated fish in Second Life. Now any of Second Life’s more than 5 million residents can add hyper-realistic fish to their virtual home aquarium, office fountain, garden pond or nearby river or sea.

Powered by Cranial Tap, Inc., the virtual “smart” fish are the first in Second Life to offer a suite of customizable options, making them the most realistic, flexible and enjoyable-to-own aquatic creatures available to residents. Each of the 32 different types of fish can be changed in size, movement attributes and speed, plus behaviors of each Smart FishTM within a school can be individually adapted to the owner’s preference. “Nature’s Smart FishTM have the most natural swimming action and are the most realistic available in Second Life today,” says Maggie Morgan, owner of Something Fishy.  Cranial Tap is also responsible for powering virtual creatures, sold by retailer Second Wildlife, including squirrels, spiders, rats, seagulls, whales and crickets. Each offers a deep level of customization to suite specific virtual environments. The technology employed serves as an example of how Cranial Tap can breathe life into 3D objects for fun or research.

Response to the new fish is already enthusiastic. During his return to the Something Fishy store, early customer Scottie Foxley commented that he was on “a fish-buying frenzy” as he is loving the new smart fish.
