Dubai, UAE -- September 5th, 2007 -- The Channel 2 Group Corporation, a TV media entity with extensive reach across the MENA region, has announced its entry into the region's radio playing field. Through live coverage of the ICC Twenty.20 Cricket & Rugby World Cups, the Group looks set to deliver sports lovers an interesting experience. 

The inaugural ICC Twenty.20 World Cup has generated a lot of interest amongst the region's cricket enthusiasts, and Channel 2 has teamed up with HUM FM (106.2) to bring live ball-by-ball coverage of the spectacle beginning September 11th. The Rugby World Cup in France is another mega-event with tremendous fan-support, and the Group has joined hands with Radio 2 FM (99.3) to bring listeners live coverage starting Friday, September 7th.

Channel 2's radio sports package already includes live & exclusive coverage of the English Premier League across the Middle East, delivered in both English & Arabic commentary.

Speaking about the Group's future plans, Channel 2's Chairman, Mr. Ajay Sethi, had this to say - “We're focused on providing the very best sports radio programming for listeners here. We've bought the rights for major events across football, cricket, golf, rugby & racing over the next 5 years. What sets us apart is the fact that we bring premium radio sports content with intelligent commentary, something sports lovers in this region are often deprived of.”

The Group has also nabbed exclusive radio broadcast rights for all the ICC Cricket matches in the Middle East over the next 5 years, including the World Cup in India. Channel 2 have also acquired BCCI Cricket Rights from Nimbus Sports until the year 2010 for the South African, Kenyan & U.K. territories, including the India vs Australia series in October & the India vs Pakistan series the following month. They've further acquired live internet streaming & 3G rights for the events in ME, North Africa, India &  other territories.

Commenting on the Group's decision to make a large splash in the region's radio-waves, Mr. Sethi said - “Well radio is the second best medium of communication, and its all-encompassing reach is something which can't be denied. We have the expertise and confidence to bring a new era of sports programming to the Middle East. We've already secured rights to premium content for large sporting events and are partnering with regional broadcasters in bringing a unique product to the consumer.” Channel 2 will produce play by play live commentary direct from the venues for the scheduled sporting events.

The ICC Twenty.20 World Cup will be broadcast from September 11th and the Rugby World Cup begins Friday, September 7th.
