Children's Charity Seeks Support for Largest Disaster Donation Season
September 06, 2007

September 6, 2007 -- The Foundation for Coloring Away Pain (www.coloringawaypain.com ), a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2005, will donate 15,000 coloring books and boxes of crayons to homeless children affected by Hurricane Felix. Coloring Away Pain has determined that over 10,000 children in Nicaragua alone have lost their homes due to Hurricane Felix. The American Nicaraguan Foundation in Miami, FL (www.aidnicaragua.com ) has agreed to provide shipping and coordinate the distribution of these books.

The Foundation for Coloring Away Pain needs to generate national level awareness and support to raise enough funds to meet the financial requirements of this highly active disaster season. The coloring books donated allow children to cope with confusing and emotional situations through drawing and coloring and are often a means to getting a child to open up about their emotions. Coloring Away Pain has produced books in their Natural Disaster Series that focus on topics such as Hurricanes, Tornados, Fires, Floods, Earthquakes, and Storms (general).

The Foundation for Coloring Away Pain has donated books to children affected by catastrophic events such as Hurricane Katrina (2005 & 2006), Hurricane Dean, Virginia Tech Massacre, Utah Mine Disaster, Greensburg, KS Tornado, Northwood ND Tornado, South Lake Tahoe Fires, and the Texas Floods.

The Foundation for Coloring Away Pain was founded as a response to Hurricane Katrina. Kim Pressley-Herrick, a single mother of three, has primarily funded the creation, production and distribution of all of the books. Ms. Pressley-Herrick has written over 25 coloring books and most titles are available in both English and Spanish.
