A good news story about air travel is happening at Chicago O’Hare and Midway airports. Since instituted less than a year ago, MailSafe Express has enabled over 13,000 passengers to keep their items rather than surrender them to the TSA forfeiture bins. MailSafe Express allows passengers to hold their item at the airport or have it shipped to their homes. This has been a cooperative effort by the Chicago Department of Aviation and TSA in Chicago. According to Steve Kranyec, President of ReturnKey Systems the developer of the MailSafe Express units, “It’s a win, win for everybody. TSA saves screening time and avoids confrontations with passengers and passengers have a way to keep valuable and sentimental items. It’s great that an airport system like Chicago’s is so forward thinking and focused on customer service.”
TSA has a difficult and demanding job. The kiosks located inside the checkpoint allow the agent to provide customer service, avoid confrontation, and return quickly to their core job of insuring the airlines remain safe. It is estimated that TSA has saved over 2000 man hours in the Chicago checkpoints and countless hours managing customer complaints.
Chicago O’Hare instituted the service in December 2006 and Midway in May 2007.
“As our one year anniversary approaches, we’re thankful to the Chicago Aviation Authority for it’s commitment to customer service and look forward to reaching the 25,000 customers served milestone” said Steve Kranyec.
MailSafe Express is also installed in Portland, Houston, Tampa, Dulles and others.
