Chicago, IL (MMD Newswire) -- DANK Haus, Chicago's German American Cultural Center located in historic Lincoln Square, presents "Passage," an art exhibit by renowned German artist Dede Handon. The exhibit opens on Friday, April 2, from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. at DANK Haus, 4740 North Western Ave.
Dede Handon was born in New York and has lived most of her life in Germany. Currently a resident of Friedrichsdorf, her works have been shown in prestigious galleries throughout Bad Homburg, in addition to exhibits in Meerbusch, Halle, Frankfurt and Friedrichsdorf, among others. Her work is part of many private and public collections, including the Deutsche Bank Art Collection, Huebner Collection and the State of Hessen holdings.

Handon combines classical sketching with traditional painting by working with several layers of different types of materials-charcoal, chalk, ink markers-mounted on paper and foil. The layers create a new dimension, which changes with different exposure to light; this constantly changes the perspective of the viewer, making the viewer part of the creation.
"Dede Handon is a well-respected artist in Germany and DANK Haus is thrilled to be bringing her to Chicago for a rare US exhibit," says Susan Barton, curator of the center's Scharpenberg Gallery. "We welcome the public and we hope that this very special exhibit will help to open our doors to all. DANk Haus is always buzzing with cultural activities and festivities; this is a perfect opportunity for Chicago to view exquisite artwork and to explore this treasure in the heart of Lincoln Square."
The opening reception for Dede Handon's "Passage" is on Friday, April 2, 2010. The 6th floor Skyline Lounge at DANK Haus, boasting one of the city's best views, will be open that evening from 8:00 p.m.-midnight. There will be a cash bar. All events are open to the public.
DANK Haus is located in the heart of Lincoln Square in Chicago at 4740 N. Western Avenue. The gallery is open to the public every Saturday, from 11 am-3pm and is available during the week by appointment only. For more information about DANK Haus, visit www.dankhaus.com or call (773) 561-9181.
