Chartwell was formed in 2002 by four lawyers. The firm, now comprised of 57 lawyers, has Pennsylvania offices in Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Scranton, Valley Forge, and Philadelphia, as well as offices in New York City, NY, Wilmington, DE, Melbourne, FL and Medford, NJ.
"While many firms are contracting and a few have collapsed, Chartwell has continued its strategy of aggressive growth into primarily litigation-related practice areas" said Chuck Barreras, a founding partner of the firm. In addition to handling virtually every type of commercial, business, employment, insurance, property and casualty litigation, the firm is growing its bankruptcy, foreclosure, and government contractor sections.

Heading the expansion of the New York City office, and joining Chartwell partners Danielle Sullivan Kaminski and Matthew Gonzalez, is Kenneth Goldberg, Esq. Mr. Goldberg, a veteran litigator and graduate of Brooklyn Law School, focuses his practice on commercial litigation, consumer credit card disputes, and all aspects of construction litigation. He and his firm have handled significant cases in numerous state and federal courts. Joining Mr. Goldberg are litigators William Grae, Jack Gross, Jonathan Berkowitz, and Pooja Kumar, a recent graduate of Villanova Law School.
In addition to handling commercial and general casualty litigation, the New York office serves international clients in complex property, insurance coverage and subrogation matters. "After 33 years of running my own firm, I have finally found a group of people that I am eager to join; a group of entrepreneurial, forward-thinking lawyers who understand the practice and the business of law", said Mr. Goldberg. "We expect to announce further geographic and practice area expansions in the very near future", noted Cliff Goldstein, the firm's CEO.
