ONE FLU OVER THE DUCK’S NEST

CORTE MADERA: Dr. Don Harte, wellness chiropractor, is having an anniversary celebration of the role of Chiropractic in saving tens of thousands of lives during the Great Flu Pandemic of 1918. This fall is the 90th anniversary of this event, along with the 113th anniversary of the birth of Chiropractic, and the 27th anniversary of Dr. Harte’s practice. He is hosting a party at his office to commemorate these three events. Live music and great food. This is a benefit event for the Marin Humane Society. Assemblyman Jared Huffman, whose father was a chiropractor, will appear.

The 1918 Flu Pandemic, right after the end of World War I, killed between 25 and 40 million people, worldwide. Yes, many went to chiropractors in the face of this terrible disease. What happened? History shows us that those under chiropractic care, during the flu pandemic, had a far better chance of survival. In 1979, Walter Rhodes wrote that, during the Pandemic, medical doctors in Davenport, Iowa treated 93,590 patients, with 6,116 deaths, in other words, one out of 15 under medical care succumbed to the flu. At the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, 1,635 flu cases were adjusted, with only one fatality. Outside of Davenport, Iowa chiropractors adjusted 4,735 flu cases, with only six deaths - one out of 866. In 1919, Palmer College of Chiropractic published "The Flu and You." The ratio of flu cases cared for vs. deaths were as follows: Medical care: 1 out of 17 died. Osteopathic care: 1 out of 36 died. Chiropractic care: 1 out of 886!

How? What does Chiropractic have to do with surviving a killer flu pandemic? Chiropractors work with the nervous system, allowing all of the body’s systems, including the immune system, to work more optimally. Dr. Harte comments: “It is terribly sad that, despite a heroic history, many chiropractors these days limit themselves to common back pain. It is their patients that miss out on so much.”

Chiropractic was born on September 18th, 1985, in Davenport, Iowa. Dr. D. D. Palmer adjusted Harvey Lillard, who had been deaf for seventeen years. Harvey was able to hear the trolley cars outside. Since then, millions have lead healthier, better lives because of Chiropractic. Chiropractic has survived, despite decades of harassment from establishment Medicine and various government agencies.

“Throughout my 27 years in practice, despite government harassment, and the public’s misperception, I have done my best to deliver real, wellness Chiropractic to the Bay Area.”

The festivities will take place at Dr. Harte’s Corte Madera office at 21 Tamal Vista, Suite 170, on Friday, October 3rd, from 4 to 7 P.M. This event is free to all members of the community. He asks that you RSVP at 460-6527 or This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it . His website is www.chirodrharte.com .
