SARASOTA, FL (MMD Newswire) July 30, 2010 -- The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) has reviewed operations of Center For Sight's Ambulatory Surgery Center and has granted it a three-year accreditation, the maximum permitted under the organization's regulations. The AAAHC is the leader in developing national standards to advance and promote patient safety, quality and value for ambulatory health care through peer reviewed accreditation processes, education and research.   Status as an accredited organization means Center For Sight's surgery center has passed a rigorous review of recognized standards for the provision of quality health care, set by the AAAHC non-profit accrediting group.

Ambulatory health care organizations seeking accreditation by the AAAHC undergo an extensive on-site survey of facilities and services by reviewing physicians and health administrators. Seeking accreditation from AAAHC is elective; not all ambulatory health care organizations choose to go through the process and not all who undergo the on-site survey are granted accreditation.  Center For Sight is one of only two accredited outpatient surgery facilities in the Sarasota area specializing in ophthalmology. Certification at the three year level means that Center For Sight is providing the highest possible level of quality care to patients.

Center For Sight's surgical center consists of three operating rooms used to perform cataract, glaucoma, cornea, retina and facial cosmetic surgery. In addition, the center has a laser suite comprised of the IntraLase Laser and the Allegretto Wave Laser used to perform All-Laser LASIK (laser assisted in situ keratomileusis).  This state of the art facility is staffed by Center For Sight's ophthalmic and facial cosmetic surgeons, and is under the medical direction of William J. Lahners, M.D., F.A.C.S.
