Bayat Foundation Sponsors Annual Bike Race 2007 in Kabul, Afghanistan The theme is Say NO to Drugs and more than 1,000 riders are signed up to participate.
Kabul, Afghanistan / April 16, 2007 -- The Bayat Foundation, which has been in the forefront promoting athletics, is taking the lead role in the Annual Bike Race to be held April 20, 2007 in Kabul, Afghanistan.
More than 1000 participants are registered to take part in the race which begins in Darulaman Palace and ends 26 kilometers later at Pahman.
The Bayat Foundation has organized other sports events including the Run for Peace and Unity. The organization has also provided financial aid to help Afghan athletes participate in international events. In 2006, the Bayat Foundation and Afghan Wireless sponsored a team of young Afghan football players to participate in the Street Football Championship held in Germany. Only 24 teams from all across the world were selected. The Bayat Foundation and Afghan Wireless were also the first to sponsor the Afghan National Basketball team to participate in the 15th Asian Games held in Doha, Qatar.
The Bayat Foundation believes that local talent should be promoted and local sports activities organized to build solidarity and create a feeling of togetherness. That’s why the Bayat Foundation has organized the Annual Bike Race every year for the past three years.
This year the event is sponsored by the Bayat Foundation, Afghan Wireless, Kabul bank, Tiger Sandwich Biscuits, Aria Water, Coca Cola Company and the media partner is ATN.
The theme for this year’s race is: Say NO to Drugs. Drugs have become a menace worldwide.
“Today when we look around us we can see a lot of suffering, anger and pain and we need to ensure that people don’t resort to taking drugs as a means to alleviate their suffering,” says Ehsan Bayat, Chairman of the Bayat Foundation. “We need to reach out and promote awareness about this drug menace and embark together on a journey of solidarity and togetherness to combat this collectively. It will benefit everyone.”
This year the total cash prize will be a 170,000 Afghanis with the first second and the third winner taking home Af.50,000, Af. 25,000 and Af.10,000 respectively. There are additional prizes: 50 bicycles for the first 50 contestant and 50 Bakht Accounts from Kabul Bank which will be opened for free.
Trophies and medals to winners will also be given. Apart from this there will be a certificate of participation to all the participants.
