Boycott Citgo with I-Pass Covers November 29, 2006 -- Highway Image is supporting the effort to let the Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez, know the United States will not sit by complacently while others make false accusations against our leaders. Highway Image has made new I-Pass covers available urging others to boycott the Venezuelan-owned Citgo. The boycott covers are in concert with similar actions across the country such as Florida’s Transportation Department placing signs along the highway to inform motorist of alternate service centers rather than use Citgo stations along the Turnpike. The toll pass covers are made of a material that does not interfere with the reading of the toll. It has been tested by toll pass manufacturers and reviewed by the Federal Highway Safety Administration. The Highway Image pass cover is safe, reliable and is very easy to install. The front of the cover is a clear laminate that pulls off and sticks to the inside of the windshield. The back has a Velcro®-type adhesive that the transponder mounts with. The cover will affix squarely to any windshield once the liner is pealed off similar to a sticker but it is most definitely NOT a sticker. The Highway Image pass cover is a piece of technology made of a material that does not interfere with the reading of the transponder. It has been tested by toll pass manufacturers and reviewed by the Federal Highway Safety Administration.
The toll pass transponders that are mounted on car windshields, allowing them to pass through tollbooths without stopping are a time saving convenience. They also cut back on pollution and reduce traffic congestion. There is one major drawback, they are ugly.
Various parts of the country have different toll passes. Florida has the SunPass, Texas has the Toll Tag, Illinois has the I-Pass and California has the FastTrack. The greatest concentration is E-Zpass® primarily in the Northeast with over 15 million transponders in use. Every state refers to the transponder as a “toll pass”. Several DOT’s have told Mr. Burns that the tag cover increase safety and could save them “millions of dollars” in processing fines if people were given a reason to keep their tag in the windshield. Drivers tend to hold the tag in the windshield as they pass through the toll since they don’t like the way it looks on their car. As a result, the tag is often misread and triggers a fine. Also, fumbling around with the transponder can be a dangerous distraction. Having a toll pass cover will increase safety and save money.
