HOMESTEAD, Fla. (MMD Newswire) July 12, 2010 -- Boom! by Jerry Blanton shares a baby boomer's quest to find his generation's purpose in a country of lingering racial discrimination. "I wanted to tell a story about a boomer growing up and determining to fight against prejudice, which was the great evil of the day," says Blanton.
Boom! follows Homer Champion for the first 16 years of his life as he realizes the great, unequaled triumphs of his parents' generation. He doesn't think there's anything left for his own generation to achieve, until he's faced with the growing problem of civil rights - and whether to fight bigotry in a violent or peaceful manner.
The novel is semiautobiographical, grown from a letter written in 1980 to his father, a United States Air Force veteran of World War II and the Korean War. "He was feeling depressed, so I wrote him a letter telling him what a great generation he was part of and all the things they had accomplished," says Blanton. "I idolized his generation until I realized that it had left civil rights unfulfilled for many of our citizens."
Boom! is available for sale online at Amazon.com and other channels.
