Vancouver -- Jan 8, 2008 -- Oscar® nominees who don’t win the coveted gold statue in February will be able to console themselves with a unique hand crafted piece of ceramic art by Vancouver based artist Suzy Birstein. The only Canadian artist asked to contribute to the “Everybody Wins At The Oscars® gift bag* being given to this year’s non-winning Academy Award Nominees in the major categories by Distinctive Assets (DA), Birstein will find herself in some stellar company.

DA originally discovered Suzy while cruising the internet for Mexican inspired pottery for the Latin Grammys. They liked her work so much, they offered Suzy the Oscars! The US based company has long been the principal provider of  swag bags for this and many other awards shows including the Grammy® Awards, the Latin Grammy® Awards, the Daytime Emmy® awards, the People’s Choice® Awards and the Academy of Country Music® Awards, among others.

I feel that it’s a privilege for my work to be gifted to such internationally renowned stars during what is arguably the most high profile entertainment event in the world.”

Birstein’s colorful tableware and sculpture has been featured at leading museums from Ontario and Quebec to Washington State, Montana, Kentucky, Ohio and Japan. In addition to her one-woman exhibits at Vancouver Galleries, Birstein’s eclectic tableware and sculpture has been seen on film and television and has been specially commissioned by some of Vancouver’s leading restaurants.
 
The one of a kind ceramic “Motion Pitchers” the multi-faceted artist has designed for the Oscar® nominees, are reflective of the life size figurative sculptures she is creating for an upcoming Gallery show in British Columbia. The show will feature Birstein as innovative artist and performer as she spotlights her tap dancing skills amidst her creations and on film.
