Concord, NH (MMD Newswire ) November 24, 2008 -- Marauding squirrels can take the fun out of bird feeding - they dominate feeders, scare birds and eat a ton of birdseed. But there's a birdfeeder design that stands up to their challenge and prevails - the Squirrel Buster!
A Squirrel Buster works on a simple concept - it uses the weight of the squirrel to shut off access to the seed supply. When a squirrel jumps on the feeder, his weight pulls down an outer cover that, in turn, blocks the feeding ports. As long as the squirrel is on the feeder, his weight keeps the seed ports covered. When the squirrel jumps off, the cover bounces back up and the feeding ports are again available for the birds. After a few foiled attempts, squirrels finally give up and don't come back!
The Squirrel Buster comes in three models and prices. The largest, Squirrel Buster Plus, holds 3½ lbs. of seed with six feeding ports, the medium-size Squirrel Buster Classic has four feeding ports and holds 1 1/3 lbs. of seed, and the Squirrel Buster Mini has four feeding ports and holds 1/3 lb. of seed. Each is designed to keep seed fresh and aerated, and they can be easily disassembled and washed in the dishwasher - a definite plus!
Shelby Dunn Kimball of Duncraft, says "You'll make back the price of a Squirrel Buster in seed savings within the first year - these feeders work that well!" All three Squirrel Buster models are available at duncraft.com .
