FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- December 3, 2008 -- Don’t Fry Bacon in the Nude: And Other Bits of Advice From My Mother, a book by Peggy Ward, is the collection of the “words of wisdom” given to her by her mother and her reflections on what they meant to her.
Ward knows firsthand that children have a tendency to ignore their parents and often forget that their parents were once young, too. In her manuscript, Ward documents specific recommendations given to her from her mother, ranging from dating and etiquette tips to learning to drive a stick shift car. She writes, “Had I listened to [my mother] from the very beginning, I would have saved myself from a rollercoaster ride of emotions, both good and bad. But then again, I wouldn’t have become the person I am today.”
According to Ward, kids today are growing up too fast and parents are too busy with their jobs and the demands of this fast-paced world to focus on parenting. She believes that even if the parent takes an active role in his child’s life, the child thinks he knows more than his parent and his parent is clueless. The author hopes that readers will be able to relate to their own memories of counsel given to them from their parents, and perhaps, like Ward, find out that the parent was right.
The author was inspired to write Don’t Fry Bacon in the Nude because of the devoted care her mother gave her while she was recuperating from surgery. Ward found that a mother’s job is never done and wrote her book to show her appreciation and adoration for her mother.

Peggy Ward is the winner of a bronze IPPY Award in the humor category and was also a finalist in the National Best Books 2008 Awards and in the 2008 National Indie Excellence Awards, both in the humor category. She holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from the University of Alabama. After working in the cruise industry for 14 years and freelancing as a technical writer, she currently teaches driver safety to Fortune 500 companies.
