ATLANTA DOGWOOD FESTIVAL  72 Years Young

72 YEARS  --  Friday, April 4 through Sunday, April 6, 2008, the Atlanta Dogwood Festival will take place at its new home – the Outdoor Forecourt of Lenox Square. A full weekend of arts, music, family and fun, the Dogwood Festival has long been the Southeast’s favorite springtime tradition. www.dogwood.org

ARTS  --  The 2008 Atlanta Dogwood Festival will feature the festival’s largest Artist Market ever including some of the best visual artists from across the United States. New in 2008, the adult only Finlandia Art Bar will welcome the festival’s more mature guests with a high-tech art exhibition, refreshing cocktails and a selection of quality wines and premium beers.

MUSIC  --  Each year, the Atlanta Dogwood Festival offers non-stop entertainment throughout the weekend. Performances appeal to a variety of tastes. The 2008 festival will include featured performers from a variety of musical genres.

KIDS  --   Designed just for the younger festival visitors, the Kid’s Village has become a Dogwood favorite for families. An interactive zone complete with hands-on art projects allows this colorful area to provide hours of entertainment for children.

LOCATION  --  Due to the severe drought conditions in Atlanta, the Atlanta Dogwood Festival was unable to host this year’s event in Piedmont Park. After much searching the festival is delighted to have found a temporary home at Lenox Square in Buckhead. It’s sort of a homecoming - in its first year (1936), one of the festival’s opening-day events was held in Buckhead. Lenox Square has a long history of hosting large-scale events and has the added benefit of being close to multiple MARTA connections, which will help cut down on traffic and keep the event “green.”

ENTRANCE  --  Just as it has been for the past 71 years, the 72nd Annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival is free!

FUNDRAISING  --   As a registered 501-C3, the Atlanta Dogwood Festival thanks Friends of Dogwood and our sponsors who help keep this great event free and open to the public. The festival also provides festival exposure to many other non-profit organizations annually at its Community Corner, including Trees Atlanta’s annual sale of dogwood tree seedlings in exchange for a small donation.
