At Last - The First Worldwide Amateur Poker League

Portland, OR -- July 12 -- WrenegadePoker.com(TM), is a web-based company for poker enthusiasts.  The forum-based web site provides a format to find a conveniently located public or private game, organize and host a game, communicate with other members and organize your poker calendar.   Today WrenegadePoker.com unveiled its latest effort – the organization of the World Amateur Poker League (WAPL)(TM).  The WAPL fills a need for the structured growth and organization of amateur poker leagues by sponsoring exciting amateur poker league tournaments on a worldwide basis.  The goal of the WAPL is to run tournaments in a format similar to other leagues such as the NCAA and the PGA.

Regardless of the widely televised professional Texas Hold’em tournaments, the vast majority of the estimated 150,000,000 poker players around the world play in amateur leagues, poker clubs, private weekend games or other online venues.  The WAPL will offer free tournament play for such “week end amateurs” who feel they have the skills to compete with other highly skilled players.

Founder, Michael Wrenn, says “It is my dream to provide the amateur poker world with a destination for unlimited poker and promote the future growth of the amateur sport of poker.  It is time for the world to recognize Texas Hold’em as true sports entertainment and to organize it as such.”

The WAPL tournaments will be free to all WrenegadePoker.com paying members and will sponsor amateur events worldwide.   A 9-month WAPL tournament season is anticipated.  The recurring event will take place at casinos, banquet halls, hotels, etc in the participating regions.  Prizes and awards will be sponsored by WrenegadePoker.com and other corporate sponsors.   Wide range media coverage is also anticipated.
