About Peter Scott, the Selection and the Artists:
Peter Scott has built his professional career in the art world by specializing in secondary market dealing. Now he is excited to discover and promote the work of progressive multimedia artists hidden in Brooklyn and beyond. In this first year, SHAG plans to present a combination of contemporary New York-based and internationally talented artists from Europe, Latin America and Asia....
"SHAG is an exciting small gallery in Chelsea, with big ideas," says barebrush CEO, Ilene Skeen. "I am very pleased that Peter enthusiastically agreed to participate in barebrush. Peter has a quote on his website which resonates with the artist and art lover in us all:
"Art is what lifts us above daily life. It makes us more human, more refined and more intelligent."
Peter had a difficult time selecting the 29 pieces for February. He looked especially for strong statements, good design, and technical skills. "It was hard to choose," he said when it was over. Peter chose 2 Figures in Abstraction by Emily Rich (NY) to launch the month. He thought her By the Sea surreal landscape unusual. Some of the other artists from whom Peter chose multiple works were Jennie Rosenbaum (Australia, 4 pieces), Donelli J. DiMaria (New Mexico, 3 pieces). He thought the works by Yukako (NY), Tim Woodhouse (TX) and Martina Shapiro (Canada) were "strong." He also liked Roger Cummiskey's Sad which has the honor of ending January (Spain).
All of the artists selected for the calendar receive two (2) complimentary listings. Peter selected five works as nominees for the Curators Choice Awards. The nominees will be announced February 10th when voting begins. Each of the Curator's Choice Award nominees receives 8 additional complimentary listings and are eligible for Curator's Choice Award cash prizes as well.
The artists represented for February 2008 are: Roger Cummiskey (28, 29), Donelli J. DiMaria (20-22), Charmaine Frost (16), Jean Marcellino (11, 23), Martina Shapiro (26), Dan McCormack (10), Jacqui Morgan (15), Emily Rich (1-5), Jennie Rosenbaum (6-9), Ilene Skeen (27), Suhas Tavkar (25), Randy Thurman (14), Haydee Torres (18, 19), Judith Volkmann (12, 13), Tim Woodhouse (24) and Yukako (17).
About barebrush.com
barebrush.com is an international marketplace dedicated exclusively to the art of the nude. The purpose of the website is to help artists find recognition for their work in this controversial and ancient art genre and thus connect with interested collectors and dealers.
The N*des-of-the-Month is a virtual juried exhibition of the art selected from the “Art Log” by a different guest art professional each month. The exhibition is presented on the web in a unique calendar format and for each day of the month, the nude of the day is featured on the barebrush home page. Art which gets into the calendar becomes a permanent part of the barebrush site and remains available for viewers in the barebrush archives.
Membership on the site is free, and listing art on the site for 60 days is a nominal cost of $1 per artwork. There is a $10 minimum for 10 listings which can be used all at once or over time at the artist’s option. There is no pre-set monthly charge. Interested collectors may contact the artist or dealer directly about the artworks.
Free printable versions of present and historical calendars are available at the website in both one-page-per-month and weekly planner (seven-days-per-page) formats. In addition, barebrush logo gear is available for sale. Optional extras include the Personal Page Template and the Featured Artist’s Brag Page. Information about optional extras can be found at the Barebrush>Promote Your Art. N*des-of-the-Month February 2008 is the eighteenth in the barebrush series.
The N*des-of-the-Month exhibition series began in September 2006 with an exhibition curated by Brigitte Saint-Ouen, founder and director of Gramercy 32 Fine Arts. All the calendars and the details of the art represented are available in the archives of barebrush.com.
Art can be uploaded to barebrush at any time. Art uploaded now will be in consideration for the N*des-of-the-Month March and April 2008 contests. The official “Call for Entries” along with the announcement of the March guest curator is released at the website on February 4th.
