New York, NY – Nov. 1, 2007 – Barebrush.com announces its fifteenth N*des-of-the-Month (November 2007) is now released to the public at the website, barebrush.com, dedicated to the art of the nude. The calendar was curated by artist, Ronnie Cutler, signature member of the American Watercolor Society, and member of the Salmagundi Club, and Pen and Brush. The 31 artworks (one for each day of the month) were selected from art submitted world-wide.
About the Selection and the Artists:
Ronnie Cutler has been called the finest living artist in the Salmagundi Club (Gary T. Erbe, former president of Allied Artists of America). In addition to the Salmagundi Club, Ronnie is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society. She is also a member of Pen and Brush. Her work is in public and private collections world-wide. Ronnie studied at the Art Students League in the 1950's and has spent a lifetime painting. "No one I know has a more original eye," says Ilene Skeen, barebrush founder and CEO.
Ronnie made many comments about the art as she selected November's work. She recognized Jacqui Morgan as a "true master" of watercolor and chose three of Jacqui's pieces, especially favoring Profile... Pinup or classic? About Jacqui's Grace and Strength, she said, "The more you look at it, the better it gets." Ronnie called African Drum #3 by Donelli J. DiMaria a masterpiece, saying "It's not my style of painting, but I know perfection when I see it." She liked the rhythm of Surviver by Tony Lee. She praised Nina Kuriloff for her originality and Emily Rich for consistency in color and design. She liked The Birds and the Bees by Lucinda Luvaas, saying it has tremendous space and holds it. She said Chanit Roston's Bending over Backwards is original and unusual. And for November's strong finale, Ronnie chose Jean Marcellino's, Sad Beth.
Ronnie, not "a computer person," and primarily a landscape painter, enjoyed the selection process and chose her own work, I am Woman, Hear Me Roar, as jury of selection to launch November. Painted many years ago, it was recently exhibited at Pen and Brush for Women's History Month.
The artists represented are: Ronnie Cutler (1), Donelli J. DiMaria (15, 16), Tony Lee (5), Lucinda Luvaas (6), Jean Marcellino (28-30), Dan McCormack (19), Chris Miller (14), Jacqui Morgan (2-4), Hector Olvera (11), Jim Owens (25), Jon Rettich (17), Emily Rich (12), Jennie Rosenbaum (24), Chanit Roston (22, 23), Clare Shepherd (20, 21), Ilene Skeen (7, 8), Suhas Tavkar (9), Randy Thurman (26), Haydee Torres (10), Wlodarski K (18), and Yukako (13).
CEO Ilene Skeen says, “I’m very proud that Ronnie Cutler curated this calendar. She selected work of many styles and sensibilities, emphasizing consistency, originality, and artistic intent. Over the years, Ronnie has declined many requests to teach and stayed true to her own personal vision. It is really special that she took the time to select the November 2007 show and made so many helpful comments about the artists’ work. Ronnie’s generosity confirms to me that we are not really in the business of connecting people to art, but rather in the business of connecting people to each other, through each artists’ unique cultural vision.
Ronnie is known especially for her landscapes, which she paints from a vision within. She keeps a studio/gallery in the Berkshires, the inspiration of her art, and remains an active painter in her Greenwich Village studio as well.
