Art News: Barebrush N*des-of-the-Month August 2007 – 31 Cool Nudes New York, NY – July 31, 2007 – Barebrush.com announces the publication of August 2007, the twelfth monthly calendar in the barebrush.com N*des-of-the-Month series, completing one year of operation. The calendar was curated by Della Clason Sperling, Ph. D., art historian and partner in Dulack, Sperling & Cheney, art advisors, appraisals and collections management. The 31 artworks (one for each day of the month) were selected from over 360 entries. N*des-of-the-Month August 2007 is in previews for members only and viewable by the public beginning August 1, 2007 at www.barebrush.com. About the Artists in the N*des-of-the-Month July 2007 calendar: Della Clason Sperling enjoyed the selection process and especially liked some of the narrative which accompanied the art. She chose Frank Olesen (Denmark) to "center" the month because "it says everything in a bit more graphic way than most, and would be a great fulcrum." Della chose NovA (New York) for the all-important first Saturday, and delighted in the art by Emily Rich (New York) and Tony Lee (Panama), the humor of Karen Mathewsen (Canada) and the whimsy of Joost Remeeus (Belgium). For her jury of selection, Della choose to start and end the month with two historical American artists from the Salmagundi Club collection: Robert Fawcett (1903-1967) and Harrison Cady (1877-1970). The artists represented (with day of month in parentheses) are: Mark Behme (24, 25), Stefan Beyst (9), Harrison Cady (31), Roger Cummiskey (20), Joyce DiBona (7), Robert Fawcett (1), Anthony Gordon (12), Stevan Josimovic (14), Tony Lee (8), Lucinda Luvaas (19, 29), Jean Marcellino (28), Karen Mathewson (26), Jacqui Morgan (18), Linda Moses (3), NovA (4), Frank Olesen (15), Hector Olvera (17), Michael Parker (23), Joost Remeeus (27), Emily Rich (16), Jennie Rosenbaum (11), Chanit Roston (2), William Stephen Rothstein (22), Salvatore Scrivo (10), Clare Shepherd (6), Ilene Skeen (13), Randy Thurman (30), Haydee Torres (5), Yukako (21). About the Salmagundi Club and Della Clason Sperling Founded in 1871, the Salmagundi Club serves as a center for visual artists from New York and around the US - providing exhibitions of paintings, sculpture and photography, conducting art classes and painting demonstrations and art auctions throughout the year. This is conducted in an atmosphere of conviviality that encourages discussions on art and other topics and leads to lasting friendships among both lay and artists members. While members are mainly residents of New York, Salmagundians are to be found throughout the United States and Canada, as well as such faraway places as London, Amsterdam and Lisbon. The Salmagundi Club also hosts the annual exhibition of the American Watercolor Society. In addition, two non-member shows offer painters, sculptors and photographers the opportunity to exhibit in the Salmagundi's landmarked building on lower Fifth Avenue. Della Clason Sperling earned a doctorate in Art History with a specialization in Late Nineteenth-Century Victorian Painting from Columbia University. Her dissertation was: “Enigma and Narrative: The Late Paintings of William Quiller Orchardson (Scottish, 1832-1910).” She worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, cataloguing the Nineteenth-Century Paintings in the Department of European Paintings for eleven years. Della headed the Provenance Research Project for nineteenth-century paintings, reviewing history of ownership for possible seizure during World War II, and she help to institute a relational database for the department. Della was a contributor to the exhibition catalogue, From Van Eyck to Brueghel: Early Netherlandish Paintings in the Metropolitan Museum. She also does private research for other scholars, and and is USPAP certified in Appraisal Studies. Della is currently completing the cataloguing of the art collection of the Salmagundi Club. She is a founding partner in Dulack, Sperling & Cheney, art advisors, appraisals and collections management.
