Art News: N*des-of-the-Month March 2008 In Previews Now

New York, NY – Feb 28, 2008 – Barebrush.com announces that its nineteenth N*des-of-the-Month Calendar, (March 2008) is in previews (for members only) on the website, barebrush.com, dedicated to the art of the nude. The calendar is released to the public on March 1st.  The March 2008 calendar was curated by artist and instructor, Zoran Crnkovic, NYC. Nearly 450 artworks, (all media, all nude, a record) were submitted by artists world-wide. Works by 30 artists were chosen. The barebrush website is owned and operated by ILS Designs, LLC.

About Zoran Crnkovic, the Selection and the Artists:

Zoran Crnkovic is a painter and sculptor. He is an art instructor of figure drawing at the Salmagundi Club in New York. His studio is in Long Island City.

When asked what he would be looking for when he selected the artwork for BAREBRUSH, Zoran had said,

I'm looking for sense of rhythm and use of medium to communicate personal
reality. The act of seeing translated to art. Not necessarily skill, but its
use. Most important is the inner life of the artwork and its truthfulness,
sprouting from intimate experience that is revealing the artist naked to its
core. I'm looking for the courage to let pencil, brush, and pen ...reveal the
one who is holding it.

Zoran reviewed  nearly 450 pieces submitted for the March 2008 show (a record). "If only there were a few more days in the month," Zoran said, half-joking, "I wish I could extend the selection...." Zoran found it interesting to see such different approaches and challenging to select the art. Zoran chose Anastasia Great Bones Strong Legs by Jacqui Morgan for the honor of launching the month. Zoran chose two works in memory of popular model, Aviva Stone, who died in December: Post-Thanksgiving Aviva by Jean Marcellino, and Avivas (multiple) by Jon Rettich.

Zoran was most impressed with Donna Cleary's work. "She's pushing drawing as an art form far beyond its normal bounds, reflecting layers of personal and cultural meaning." Some of the other artists he named as particularly strong were Ruth Butler, Francien Krieg, Frank Olesen and Mercadoocasio. Zoran's selected 30 artists for the 31 days in the month. Ever the teacher, Zoran said he wanted to encourage artists to participate and to keep participating. "You have quite a solid thing going," he said. For those who did not get in to the calendar (and some who did), Zoran gave specific suggestions to be passed along to them privately.

All of the artists selected for the calendar receive two (2) complimentary listings. Zoran selected five works as nominees for the Curators Choice Awards. The nominees will be announced March 10th when voting begins. Each of the Curator's Choice Award nominees receives 8 additional complimentary listings and are eligible for Curator's Choice Award cash prizes as well.

The artists represented for March 2008 are: Ruth Butler (23), Donna Cleary (2), Donelli J. DiMaria (7), Charmaine Frost (20), Leon Kalas (27), Guenter Knop (24), Francien Krieg (13), Tony Lee (8), Trisha Lambi (12), Lucinda Luvaas (31), Kathy Magnusen (4), Jean Marcellino (9), Dan McCormack (6), Mercadoocasio (30), Jacqui Morgan(1), Frank Olesen (19), Richard Rabkin (21), Jon Reddich (10, 16), Emily Rich (15), Jennie Rosenbaum (5), Chanit Roston (3), Cindy Sibilsky (25), Ilene Skeen (17), Sara Swan (29), Suhas Tavkar (26), Randy Thurman (14), Haydee Torres (22), Judith Volkmann (11), Tim Woodhouse (28) and Yukako (18).

About barebrush.com
barebrush.com is an international marketplace dedicated exclusively to the art of the nude. The purpose of the website is to help artists find recognition for their work in this controversial and ancient art genre and thus connect with interested collectors and dealers.

The N*des-of-the-Month is a virtual juried exhibition of the art selected from the “Art Log” by a different guest art professional each month. The exhibition is presented on the web in a unique calendar format and for each day of the month, the nude of the day is featured on the barebrush home page. Art which gets into the calendar becomes a permanent part of the barebrush site and remains available for viewers in the barebrush archives.

Membership on the site is free, and listing art on the site for 60 days is a nominal cost of $1 per artwork. There is a $10 minimum for 10 listings which can be used all at once or over time at the artist’s option. There is no pre-set monthly charge. Interested collectors may contact the artist or dealer directly about the artworks.

Free printable versions of present and historical calendars are available at the website in both one-page-per-month and weekly planner (seven-days-per-page) formats. In addition, barebrush logo gear is available for sale. Optional extras include the Personal Page Template and the Featured Artist’s Brag Page. Information about optional extras can be found at the Barebrush>Promote Your Art . N*des-of-the-Month March 2008 is the nineteenth in the barebrush series.

The N*des-of-the-Month exhibition series began in September 2006 with an exhibition curated by Brigitte Saint-Ouen, founder and director of Gramercy 32 Fine Arts. All the calendars and the details of the art represented are available in the archives of barebrush.com .

Art can be uploaded to barebrush at any time. Art uploaded now will be in consideration for the N*des-of-the-Month April and May 2008 contests. The official “Call for Entries” along with the announcement of the March guest curator is released at the website on March 4th.
