Antioch Global Outreach "Transforming Lives One Child at a Time." The Antioch Global Outreach will host its 5th African Symposium and Silent Auction, Saturday, August 2, 2008, at the exquisite Renaissance Hotel and Spa located in the Westgate City Center, of Glendale, AZ. The African Symposium, with lavish decoration, exquisite cuisine, authentic African clothing, and the heartfelt ministry of song and African dance, is sure to be remembered as the fund raising event of the year.
Antioch Global Outreach is a non-profit organization comprised of both a progressive Local and influential Foreign Outreach Program. They operate domestic programs such as the Angel Tree Program, Faith House, Feed the Hungry, and Caring Hands programs where they provide toys for children of incarcerated persons, visit homes for troubled teenage girls (mentor them and provide support), provide food baskets to needy families, and visit extended care facilities to aid and encourage the elderly. In 2007 alone, thousands of meals were served to the homeless and holiday food baskets were delivered to needy families within the community during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Additionally, AGO provides financial, material, and personnel support to regional organizations such as Westside Food Bank, St. Vincent DePaul and the West Side Child Crisis Center.
AGO Foreign Outreach's presence extends as far as Haiti and Africa. AGO consistently allocates a healthy portion of its budget, with unshakable determination, to orphanages, schools and hospitals. They've also partnered with several African ministries and organizations to help them fight the HIV/AIDS pandemic that has claimed millions of lives and generated calamitous poverty. Every 14 seconds a child is orphaned due to HIV/AIDS-and there are currently 14 million orphans in Africa. By 2010, that number is expected to reach 25 million.
In March 2001, AGO sponsored the first African Symposium to raise awareness and to invite other local organizations and supporters to partner with some of the African organizations that they currently support. Each Symposium has become progressively bigger and better and has raised more than $10,000.00. The goal this year is to reach $20,000.
African artwork, clothing, and artifacts will be available for auction and sale throughout the evening. All proceeds benefit local organizations such as the West Valley Child Crisis Center, Faith House and St. Vincent DePaul, as well as organizations in Africa and Haiti, that are making a difference in the lives of many children orphaned by the AIDS pandemic.
AGO Founder, Pastor Jonathan E. Logan of Antioch Church of God in Christ gave three reasons for the African Symposium: First, to teach people that they can make a difference. “Whether it is locally or internationally, our goal is not just to raise money…but, to raise hope; second, to get local and international leaders to come together and realize that children are our future…we cannot allow them to just slip away; and third, enjoyment…to give mission-minded people the opportunity to come together and enjoy themselves.”
“We must remain relentless in our efforts to infuse hope and abolish despair. Sowing into the lives of the next generation is a perpetual responsibility.”
