Onyeabor, Ph.D Salt Lake City -- March, 2007 -- Stolen Heroes is a historical fiction about virgin Africa in the 1960s-no warlords and no tyrants- just before the mayhem. It is the semi-spiritual journey of Cynthia O'Leary, an idealist from Cedarville,USA who, in the spirit of the Kennedy era, and in a bid to change the world, volunteers to serve in the Peace Corps. With apprehension, she travels to Africa and is pleasantly surprised to find a vibrant European community and very receptive Africans . . . However, Africa is full of surprises. Vancouver Sun “Editor's Choice: Myriam Onyeabor attended school in France and in the United States... She respects the work of the Christian missions in Africa and wrote this novel to suggest new solutions to the continent's many problems. She chose fiction, she says, 'because When I write scholastic books, they end up in the libraries.’ Recommended Reading ...” Midwest Book Review (MBR)“Written by social psychologist and award-winning academic Dr. Myriam N. Onyeabor, Stolen Heroes is a novel set in post-colonial Africa during the early sixties. Cynthia O'Leary, the Irish-American daughter of a World War II veteran, sets out on a Peace Corps mission to Africa determined to change the world for the better. Assigned to teach in a little college town in West Africa called Utofia. Stolen Heroes is an unusually captivating, multicultural drama that reveals the little-known socio-psychological world of a part of Africa, immersing the reader in the daily struggles of three-dimensional men and women.” R.Goodfellow (USA)“I could not put this book down. I read it on the road, at home, everywhere. Stolen Heroes is more than just a book; it is a passage way into a people and the beloved country and continent of Africa, bringing out of the shadows the realities of the secret terror that they have endured and accepted as a way of life. Everyone; young and old should read this book. I have greater love and passion for African people after reading this book . . . Myriam Onyeabor transforms her characters into educational tools. Incredible reading! Adventure and romance at its best . . . It was all worth it.” About the Author: Myriam Neze Onyeabor migrated to Europe from Nigeria in the 1970s as a young girl.
